HC Deb 23 June 1931 vol 254 c208
39. Major COLVILLE

asked the Secretary for Mines if he is aware that over 2,000 workers in the shale oil industry in Scotland are threatened with loss of employment owing to the permanent closing down of plant; and if he has any proposals to assist this industry?

The SECRETARY for MINES (Mr. Shinwell)

I have received representations concerning the present position in the shale oil industry in Scotland. The whole position is being explored in discussions with representatives of both employers and workpeople to enable the Government to give proper consideration to the representations.
