HC Deb 22 June 1931 vol 254 cc36-7
61. Mr. ARTHUR MICHAEL SAMUEL

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department, whether our treaty arrangements with China governing the import of British goods into Manchuria include a most-favoured-nation Clause?

Mr. GILLETT (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

Yes, Sir. By virtue of Annex I to the Anglo-Chinese Tariff Autonomy Treaty of 20th December, 1928, we are entitled to most-favoured-nation treatment for our goods on importation into all parts of China.

Mr. SAMUEL

Has the Government notified the Chinese Government that this Clause becomes operative in relation to Customs reductions as part of the sale terms of the Chinese Eastern Railway?

Mr. GILLETT

I will look into the matter.
