HC Deb 22 June 1931 vol 254 cc34-5
51. Mr. BUCHANAN

asked the Prime Minister the terms of the communication which was addressed to the Royal Commission on Unemployment Insurance on behalf of the Government asking for an interim report?

The PRIME MINISTER

The official evidence stressed on several occasions the urgency of the problems before the commission and expressed the hope that they would find it possible to present interim reports, particularly with regard to the question of transitional benefit. The letter which I sent to the chairman informing him of his appointment conveyed a request in practically the same terms.

Mr. BUCHANAN

Was there any communication sent to this Commission while it was sitting asking for an interim report?

The PRIME MINISTER

There was—asking for an interim report in order to enable us to do our business here.
