HC Deb 22 June 1931 vol 254 c26
6 Mr. SORENSEN

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether the appropriate catchment board has considered a scheme for the drainage of the River Roding, in Essex, and its conversion to a navigable waterway?

Dr. ADDISON

The River Roding Catchment Board held its first meeting on 4th June. I understand that the board is at present considering a scheme for the transfer to it of the powers of internal drainage boards on the river. This is necessary in order to enable the board to function effectively, but I have no doubt that they will, as soon as possible, examine the drainage work which may be desirable on the river.

Mr. SORENSEN

Am I to understand that the right hon. Gentleman is not aware of any scheme for the diversion of the water having come up for discussion before the Catchment Board?

Dr. ADDISON

I did not hear all that the hon. Member said, but I am fully aware of all that they are doing. They had a meeting about a fortnight ago.
