§ 7. Brigadier-General CLIFTON BROWNasked the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware of the methods and range of Congress propaganda by which the villagers in many parts of India are led to believe that British authorities are now practically directed by Congress; and whether the Government of India will take steps to counteract this propaganda on lines similar to those employed by the Indian Army authorities with their reservists and pensioners?
§ Mr. BENNI am kept fully informed as to the political situation, and I am in consultation with the Government of India on the subject of propaganda.
Brigadier-General BROWNDoes the right hon. Gentleman not think it necessary to continue systematically to put before the people of India what is being done for their welfare; and, if one Government Department is going on those lines, could not the others also take some steps?
§ Mr. BENNSince the question was raised, I have made rather particular inquiries, and I find that there is considerable organisation for this purpose, and we are considering how it can best be used.
