HC Deb 22 June 1931 vol 254 cc28-9
70. Mr. MARJORIBANKS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is prepared to consider recommending the establishment of a fund for the relief of distressed British farmers?

Dr. ADDISON

A considerable measure of assistance is already given by the State to agriculturists in this country. The practicability of taking further steps for the relief of agricultural depression is receiving my anxious consideration.

Mr. MARJORIBANKS

Will the right hon. Gentleman inquire what relief under the international credit guarantees the British farmer is going to receive?

Dr. ADDISON

That is rather remote from the question. The hon. Member will recollect that it was only last week that we passed a Vote for £225,000.

Mr. MARJORIBANKS

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Foreign Secretary stated that the British farmer would benefit from this arrangement?

Dr. ADDISON

Yes, but that is not quite so immediate.

Mr. MARJORIBANKS

Will the right hon. Gentleman inquire?
