Mr. KINLEYasked the Minister of Labour whether she is aware that the city council of Stoke-on-Trent, on 5th February last, passed a resolution, which has since been operative, that no unemployed person who had at any time received workmen's compensation should be employed upon State-assisted relief work; whether such action has the approval of her Department or of the Unemployment Grants Committee; and what action she proposes to take to prevent such a condition being imposed?
§ Miss BONDFIELDThis is a matter within the discretion of the local authority and I have no power to intervene. I do not understand that the rule laid down by the Council excludes a man who has completely recovered from his injuries.
