Major COLFOX

I should like to ask the Minister in charge what is the reason why this particular Order is brought in, what has made it necessary, and, if he can, to give us something of the history which has led up to it.

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. W. R. Smith)

The answer to the hon. and gallant Member's question is very simple. The history of the case really means that the growth of the undertaking has necessitated additional works being erected upon their existing land, and it is necessary to have this Order in order to enable them to carry out that development.

Resolved, That the draft of a Special Order proposed to be made by the Board of Trade under the Gas Undertakings Acts, 1920 and 1929, on the application of the Portsmouth Gas Company, which was presented on the 21st day of May and published, be approved.
