HC Deb 10 June 1931 vol 253 c996
30. Mr. BEAUMONT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air if he has considered the position of the stokers at Halton and other Air Force camps who have been declared outside the purview of the Insurance Acts by the recent decision of the High Court; and whether he has considered the possibility and desirability of making their employment regular instead of casual?

Mr. MONTAGUE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, and consequently every effort is made to find other employment for these men during the spring and summer, but my Noble Friend much regrets that it is not possible to guarantee such employment.

Mr. BEAUMONT

Can the hon. Gentleman tell us whether he thinks that it is likely that the majority of these men will be absorbed?

Mr. MONTAGUE

I am not sure about the majority, but there will be a very large number. I may add that the question of insurance is not involved in the question of continuous employment.
