§ Mr. SHINWELLThe average cash earnings of all workers employed in the coal mines in Great Britain during the year 1930 was £113 18s. 2d. In addition, there were allowances in kind, varying in annual value from about 12s. in Scotland, Lancashire and Cheshire, and North Staffordshire, to about £14 in Northumberland and Durham, with an average over the whole country of £4 17s. 4d.
