HC Deb 23 July 1931 vol 255 cc1672-3
54. Mr. G. OLIVER

asked the Minister of Health whether he is now in a position to state the approximate number of men in receipt of contributory pensions whose wives have not attained the pensionable age?

Mr. GREENWOOD

I regret that the information desired by my hon. Friend is not available and could only be obtained at a cost which could not be justified in present circumstances.

Mr. OLIVER

In view of the fact that this information is badly needed not only in this House but by the people outside, will the right hon. Gentleman take steps to acquire it?

Mr. GREENWOOD

It is a matter of expenditure which would be very considerable. The task is much greater than my hon. Friend understands.

Mr. OLIVER

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman realises the importance attaching to this question and that it is impossible to do anything until we get the numbers of this class of person?
