HC Deb 22 July 1931 vol 255 c1468
6. Sir K. WOOD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can make a statement on the present position in China; whether he is aware that the rolling stock belonging to the Peking-Hankow Railway has been seized near the northern border of Honan; and whether he has any information as to the probable resumption of civil war in North China?

Mr. DALTON

There has been no material change in the situation in the neighbourhood of Canton since the 6th July, when my right hon. Friend last answered a question on this subject. The National Government have opened their campaign against the brigand forces in Kiangsi. Skirmishes appear to have taken place in the neighbourhood of the Peking-Hankow Railway between the troops of a rebel general and certain Manchurian divisions of the National Army.
