HC Deb 20 July 1931 vol 255 cc1038-9
2. Brigadier-General BROWN

asked the Secretary of State for India whether the Indian Sandhurst Committee report has been published; and whether it will be available for Members of this House?

3. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for India what are the terms of reference to the committee appointed recently to inquire into the Indianisation of the Indian army; and can he say when the report of the committee may be expected?

8. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

asked the Secretary of State for India whether it is the intention of the Government of India to publish the report of the India Sandhurst Committee; and when copies will be available?

Mr. BENN

The report has only just been completed, and I have not yet received a copy, so I cannot at the moment give a date for publication. The terms of reference were: To work out the details of the establishment of a College in India to train candidates for commissions in all arms of the Indian Defence Services.

Brigadier-General BROWN

Will copies of the report be available for Members of the House?

Mr. BENN

Yes, I imagine so; but I would not care to give a firm answer off-hand.

Sir A. KNOX

Is it going to be published in India, like the Cawnpore report?

Mr. BENN

Yes. It has only just been completed, and it is rather premature to make any definite pledge, but there is no reason to withhold any of the material findings.
