HC Deb 16 July 1931 vol 255 cc747-8
17. Sir ROBERT NEWMAN

asked the Home Secretary the number of letters that convicted persons serving sentences exceeding six months' imprisonment are allowed to send to, and receive from, friends; and whether he can see his way to allow the number to be increased?

Mr. CLYNES

The number of letters allowed varies according to the division or class in which a prisoner is and to the stage which he has attained under the progressive stage system. I am sending the hon. Member a summary of the regulations on the subject. The question of allowing more frequent communications has been considered, and certain modifications of the regulations have been made recently with this object.
