HC Deb 15 July 1931 vol 255 cc455-6
50. Mr. MARCUS

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the conviction of three persons for fraud at the Central Criminal Court on 8th July, and to the disclosures that the defendants were able to buy shares and rig the market; and if he will look into the matter with a view to legislation to check stock exchange transactions which facilitate conspiracies to defraud the investing public.

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. W. R. Smith)

I am aware of the circumstances of the case referred to by my hon. Friend but I am not persuaded that to legislate effectively in such a matter would be practicable.
