HC Deb 15 July 1931 vol 255 c436
16. Mr. KELLY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the order suppressing the newspaper "Hojas Libres" at Gibraltar is still in operation?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Dr. Drummond Shiels)

I understand that there has been no modification of the order, but the Governor informs me that no copies of "Hojas Libres" have been introduced into the colony since May, 1929, and it is believed that publication ceased about a year ago.

Mr. KELLY

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that there is no indication of this paper having ceased publication, and do I understand that there is no intention of suppressing this paper seeing that there is a change of Government in Spain?

Dr. SHIELS

I think I have already made it clear that our evidence is that the paper ceased publication about a year ago, and that there has been no effort to introduce it into the Colony for a considerable period.
