HC Deb 15 July 1931 vol 255 cc457-8
57. Mr. MARCUS

asked the Minister of Health the estimated number of persons employed in industry over the age of 65; and if he has any information, as to the effect of recent pensions legislation upon this class?

Miss LAWRENCE

The estimated number of persons aged 65 and over who are employed at some time during the year in industry, including agriculture but excluding domestic service, is rather more than 300,000. My right hon. Friend has no information as to the number of persons who have ceased to be employed in consequence of the award of an old age pension under the Contributory Pensions Acts.

Mr. W. J. BROWN

May I ask when the Government propose to introduce legislation to get these old people out of industry?
