HC Deb 09 July 1931 vol 254 cc2237-8
2. Mr. MANDER

asked the Minister of Labour the present position with regard to the dispute at the William James Manufacturing Company, Limited, Willenhall; and what action the Department has recently taken to bring the parties together, with a view to a settlement on the basis of the payment of the standard rate of wages for the district?

Miss BONDFIELD

My Department has remained in touch with the parties since their joint meeting under its auspices but no settlement of the matter in dispute has been reached. I understand, however, that the firm has resumed production.

Mr. MANDER

Will the right hon. Lady see that no Government contracts are given to this firm unless they observe the fair wages clause and pay the district rate of wages?

Miss BONDFIELD

I will consider the matter.
