§ 55. Mr. FREEMAN (for Mr. ERNEST WINTERTON)asked the Minister of Health in view of the recent cases of deaths and of blindness following vaccination, whether he will consider the appointment of a representative committee of inquiry to inquire into the whole subject and to report to Parliament?
§ Mr. GREENWOODThe subject dealt with in my hon. Friend's question was fully investigated by the Committee on Vaccination whose reports were issued in 1928 and 1930, and I do not see the necessity for any further inquiry at the present time.
§ Mr. FREEMANIs the right hon. Gentleman able to announce any decision on the statement which he made in this House a year ago as to the whole, administration of the Vaccination Acts?
§ Mr. GREENWOODNo, I could not.
§ 56. Mr. FREEMAN (for Mr. WINTERTON)asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the admission that the deaths of the twin children of Councillor A. A. Furness, of South Wigston, near Leicester, were due to post-vaccinal encephalitis, he proposes to take any steps to prevent the further use of Government lymph in this district?
§ Mr. GREENWOODThe answer is in the negative. I am advised that there is no reason to associate the deaths of these children with the use of Government lymph.
§ Mr. FREEMANMay I ask whether any compensation is payable, or whether any expression of sympathy has been sent to the parents by the Government?
