14. Mr. W. J. BROWN

asked the Minister of Labour the number of higher clerical officers employed in her Department as at the 1st April, 1931, and the number of higher clerical officers promoted to higher posts during the period 1st April, 1930, to 31st March, 1931?

Miss BONDFIELD

On 1st April, 1931, the number of persons holding the substantive rank of higher clerical officer was 211, of whom seven held temporary rank as staff clerks or higher executive officers. In addition there were 31 clerical officers with the temporary rank of higher clerical officer. During the period 1st April, 1930, to 31st March, 1931, two higher clerical officers were promoted to higher posts.

asked the Home Secretary the number of higher clerical officers employed in his Department as at 1st April, 1931; and the number of higher clerical officers promoted to higher posts during the period 1st April, 1930, to 31st March, 1931?

Mr. CLYNES

There were 31 higher clerical officers employed in the Home Office on 1st April, 1931. As regards the second part of the question no higher clerical officers were promoted during the period mentioned.
