HC Deb 09 July 1931 vol 254 cc2265-6
59. Commander SOUTHBY

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer for what reason it has been decided to discontinue the use of Government forms for advertisement purposes: and upon what date was that decision arrived at?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

The decision was reached in July, 1929. The appearance of private advertisements on Government forms proved a constant source of complaint; the revenue obtained therefrom was not large and the Government decided to put an end to the practice.

Commander SOUTHBY

Will the hon. Gentleman make an exception in the case of the blind, who got considerable revenue from these advertisements?

Mr. PETHICK - LAWRENCE

The matter was fully considered, and I do not think it likely that the Government would reopen it now; but I will look into the hon. and gallant Member's point.

Commander SOUTHBY

Will the hon. Gentleman receive a deputation?
