HC Deb 09 July 1931 vol 254 c2261
46. Mr. HOLFORD KNIGHT

asked the Prime Minister whether, in connection with the Disarmament Conference, His Majesty's Government have given consideration to the protection of the trade routes by international agreement?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

The answer is in the negative.

Mr. KNIGHT

Are we to understand that in the view of His Majesty's Government the want of regulation is not a contributory cause of heavy expenditure in naval armaments?

Mr. SNOWDEN

That raises a matter far beyond the original question, and I am not prepared to give a reply in answer to a supplementary question.

Mr. KNIGHT

Is the House to understand that this is not a matter within the agenda of the forthcoming conference?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. and learned Member has already had an answer to that question.
