HC Deb 09 July 1931 vol 254 cc2261-2
47. Mr. HAMMERSLEY

asked the Prime Minister whether, with a view to rehabilitating the Lancashire cotton trade, the Government will introduce legislation to remit for a year all cotton employers' contributions to health and unemployment insurance?

Mr. P. SNOWDEN

No, Sir.

Mr. HAMMERSLEY

In view of the fact that the export trade, and in particular, the cotton trade, has been very hard hit by the adhesion of the Government to a policy of deflation, would it not be an act of wise statesmanship to consider something like the Hoover Plan?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a much wider question than the one on the Paper.
