HC Deb 09 July 1931 vol 254 cc2429-30

Consequential Amendments made: In page 2, line 9, leave out the word "passing" and insert instead thereof the word, "commencement".

In line 37, leave out the word "passing" and insert instead thereof the word, "commencement."—[Mr. Short.]

Subsequent Lords Amendments, to page 11, line 4, agreed to.

Mr. McSHANE

On a point of Order. I wished to move a manuscript Amendment, according to the Standing Order, which says that the handing in of a manuscript Amendment is in order on consideration of Lords Amendments. Not only did I give the paper to you, but I rose immediately the Clerk said: "Page 11, line 4." What can one do in order to get one's point in?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member is quite right when he says that a manuscript Amendment is in Order, but it does not follow that the Chair always takes it. I must have some regard to the business of the House, especially when Amendments are handed in at a time when it is impossible for me to consider them. The hon. Member should have given the Amendment in earlier.

Remaining Lords Amendments agreed to.

The remaining Orders were read, and postponed.

It being after half-past Eleven of the Clock, Mr. SPKAKER adjourned the House, without Question put, pursuant to the Standing Order.

Adjourned at Nine Minutes before Twelve o'Clock.
