HC Deb 08 July 1931 vol 254 cc2081-2
50. Mr. FREEMAN

asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the desirability of changing the name police court into court of inquiry or similar term?

Mr. SHORT

My right hon. Friend would of course be ready to consider better names if such could be found; but he is not aware of any general desire for a change and the public might not take to new names for these familiar institutions.

Mr. FREEMAN

Are not these courts part and parcel of the system of the administration of justice in this country, with no monopoly or control by the police? Therefore, is not this term an undesirable interference——

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a matter of argument.
