HC Deb 08 July 1931 vol 254 cc2063-4
10. Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies which of the sugar-producing British Dependencies have made representations to the effect that the British sugar-beet subsidy is adversely affecting its native sugar industry?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Dr. Drummond Shiels)

As far as can be ascertained, representations of the nature referred to by the hon. Member have been received from Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, and the Leeward Islands. These were contained in petitions in identical terms addressed to His Majesty. For further information regarding these petitions I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to a question by the hon. Member for Devizes (Mr. Hurd) on 10th June, of which I am sending him a copy.
