HC Deb 06 July 1931 vol 254 c1716
60. Mr. SHAKESPEARE

asked the Postmaster-General the reasons for the recent discharges of men in the Norwich district employed by the engineering department of the Post Office in laying telegraph wires and cables?

Mr. ATTLEE

The discharges have been necessary because a number of men were surplus to requirements and no further useful employment could be found for them.

Mr. SHAKESPEARE

Cannot the Postmaster-General carry out his recent promise to speed up and not to slow down?

Mr. ATTLEE

Certainly.
