HC Deb 28 January 1931 vol 247 c940
2. Commander SOUTHBY

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is now in a position to state what progress, if any, has been made in the matter of the satisfactory settlement of the claims for the payment of interest on the bonds of the city of Vilna?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

The negotiations to which I referred in my reply to the hon. and gallant Member on the 3rd December are still continuing; and we are doing what we can to expedite a settlement.

Commander SOUTHBY

Is the right hon. Gentleman hopeful of a settlement being arrived at in the near future?

Mr. HENDERSON

Well, on the last occasion when I answered the hon. and gallant Member, I was a little hopeful, but the position varies almost from week to week.

Commander SOUTHBY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say if he is now more hopeful than he was?

Mr. HENDERSON

I am afraid that I cannot say that I am.
