HC Deb 27 January 1931 vol 247 cc785-6
33. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State or War whether his attention has been called to the fact that recruitment for the officers training corps at Downside School, Bath, Loretto School, Merchant Taylors' School, Stonythurst College, and Worksop College is compulsory; and whether, in view of the express wishes of the Army Council, he will say what action he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. SHAW

I am not yet in a position to add to the reply which I gave the hon. Member on 9th December last, of which I am sending him a copy for ease of reference.

Mr. MANDER

Is not the action of these schools in defiance of the expressed wish of the Army Council as stated by the right hon. Gentleman last year, and will he not take some action in the matter?

Mr. SHAW

I do not know what these schools are doing. I know what the Army Council is responsible for. I have nothing to do with the internal affairs of these schools.

Mr. MANDER

Is not the best course to abolish the officers raining corps altogether?
