HC Deb 27 January 1931 vol 247 cc771-2
7. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the President of the Board of Trade the value of German exports for 1930 as compared with the British for the same period?

Mr. W. GRAHAM

The total value of the exports during 1930 of domestic merchandise from the United Kingdom was £570,553,000 and from Germany, excluding deliveries on account of reparations, £554,082,000. If deliveries on account of reparations be included, this latter figure would be raised to £589,114,000. The total value of the imported merchandise exported from the United Kingdom in 1930 was £86,980,000. Similar information in respect of Germany is not available.

Mr. SOMERVILLE

Arising out of the first part of the reply, is it not a very extraordinary thing that Germany, being a highly protected country, can exploit—
