HC Deb 22 January 1931 vol 247 c343
29. Mr. FREEMAN

asked the Home Secretary how many local authorities have appointed women police; the total number appointed; and the proportion compared to men?

Mr. SHORT

Forty-one local police authorities have appointed women police; the number of women police so appointed is 105; the proportion to the total authorised establishments of the forces in question is 1 to 152, and, taking the establishment of the county and borough forces as a whole, the proportion is 1 to 354. These figures do not include the Metropolitan or City of London Police Forces.

Mr. FREEMAN

In view of their wide powers and satisfactory results, will my hon. Friend consider the advisability of circularising those standing joint committees that have not appointed women police, suggesting their appointment?
