HC Deb 22 January 1931 vol 247 cc331-2
4. Mr. OSWALD LEWIS

asked the Minister of Labour what is the total increase in the number of unemployed persons since the present Government assumed office?

Miss BONDFIELD

The increase is 1,523,376.

Mr. LEWIS

Do I understand from the right hon. Lady's reply that that is the very best that the Labour Government can do

Mr. HANNON

In view of the deplorable answer given by the right hon. Lady, can she now make any statement to the House of any steps that His Majesty's Government propose to take to reduce the number of unemployed persons?
