§ 34. Mr. CHATERasked the Home Secretary if his attention has been called to the number of fatal lift accidents to young persons employed as attendants; and if he contemplates taking any action in the matter?
§ Mr. SHORTMy right hon. Friend has received no special representations, but as regards premises coming under the Factory and Workshop Acts, the existing requirements undoubtedly need strengthening in the interests of the workers generally, and proposals with this object will be included in the Factories Bill. In 1929, the last year for which figures are available, three young persons employed on such premises were fatally injured as a result of hoist accidents. As regards lifts elsewhere, my right hon. Friend bears of accidents from time to time but he has no jurisdiction and is not in possession of any figures. If my hon. Friend will send particulars of the cases he has in mind, my right hon. Friend will be glad to consider them.
§ Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLEWhen is this Factories Bill going to be introduced or is it still a myth?
§ Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLEIs it not the case that it was promised in the King's Speech at the opening of the last Session?
