HC Deb 22 January 1931 vol 247 c337
18. Sir KINGSLEY WOOD

asked the Minister of Labour the indebtedness of the Unemployment Insurance Fund to date; the unexhausted amount of authorised borrowing on that date; and when, at the present rate of unemployment, it will be necessary to ask for authorisation for further borrowing if the present conditions of the scheme are maintained?

Miss BONDFIELD

On 17th January, 1931, the indebtedness of the Unemployment Fund was £62,980,000, and the unexhausted amount of authorised borrowing was £7,020,000. If the present rate of unemployment were to continue, it is estimated that this balance would be exhausted during the first week in March.
