HC Deb 21 January 1931 vol 247 cc182-3
29. Mr. D. G. SOMERVILLE

asked the Minister of Transport the minimum and maximum charges for light and power supplied in each area under the control of the Electricity Commissioners and the names of such areas?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

I am afraid I am not in a position to supply particulars of the charges made by each of the 660 or so authorised undertakers throughout the country which, as the hon. Member will be aware, are subject to alterations from time to time within the authorised maxima. As regards the London district, however, particulars of the various tariffs in operation are contained in the Annual Returns issued by the London and Home Counties Joint Electricity Authority.

Mr. HARRIS

Does the right hon. Gentleman consider it satisfactory that there should be such great varieties of prices throughout the country? Cannot something be done to bring them more into line?

Mr. MORRISON

I think that is so. The trouble is that there is such a large variety of undertakings, but in the conferences which I am holding on electricity supply I am encouraging some degree of standardisation of tariffs.
