HC Deb 25 February 1931 vol 248 cc2133-4
29. Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies in what form legislation is to be passed by Nigeria and the Federated Malay States restricting the output of tin; whether the contemplated legislation involves penalties for non-compliance and, if so, what; whether similar control and legislation is being passed by the Governments of the Dutch East Indies and Bolivia, respectively; and what quota of production is being allowed to these four principal producing countries, respectively?

Dr. SHIELS

A meeting is being arranged at an early date with representatives of the Dutch East Indies and Bolivia. Until that meeting has taken place, it is not possible to give information as to what steps will be necessary to carry out the proposed international scheme.

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

Do I understand that legislation has actually been drafted?

Dr. SHIELS

No, Sir.
