HC Deb 25 February 1931 vol 248 c2132
79. Mr. TOM SMITH

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has considered the report of the inquiry into the cause of the explosion which occurred on 4th July last, at the works of Messrs. Hickson and Partners, Limited, Castleford; and, if so, whether he proposes to take any action with regard to the recommendations made by those who conducted the investigation?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Short)

Yes, Sir; and steps are being taken by the Factory Department to bring the recommendations in the report to the notice of manufacturers concerned. In addition factory inspectors will pay special visits to the works and discuss with the management what further steps, if any, are required to give effect to the recommendations. My right hon. Friend will obtain a report on the results in due course and will then consider whether any further action is necessary.
