HC Deb 24 February 1931 vol 248 cc1937-8
27. Mr. MARJORIBANKS

asked the Secretary of State for War the present numerical strength of the Soviet Army, including reserves; and whether such strength has increased during the last year?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. T. Shaw)

As regards the first part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to the League of Nations Armaments Year Book. As regards the second part, I have no information that the strength has increased during the last year.

Mr. MARJORIBANKS

Will the right hon. Gentleman give the figures from the book to which he refers?

Captain EDEN

Is it not a fact that the right hon. Gentleman has referred to a book which is not available to Members of Parliament?

Mr. SHAW

I understand that a copy of this book is in the Library, and further, it is the best work of reference in the War Office on the subject, and I try to give hon. Members the best information I can.

Mr. MARJORIBANKS

On a point of Order. Am I to understand that I cannot get an answer to my question?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member has had a full answer.
