HC Deb 18 February 1931 vol 248 c1240
44. Mr. ARNOTT

asked the Minister of Transport if he will consider extending to new tramcars and trolley vehicles the regulations under which motor vehicles must be fitted with safety glass?

Mr. HERBERT MORRISON

As regards trolley vehicles, I propose to make requirements in this matter similar to those applicable to motor vehicles. As regards tramcars, I have in general no power to propose such requirements and while I should favour the use of safety glass in the case for example of vestibule fronts when these are fitted, I doubt whether it is necessary at present to lay down any absolute rules in the matter.

Mr. ARNOTT

Will the right hon. Gentleman use his well-known persuasive powers to get legislation to require vestibule fronts to be so fitted?

Mr. MORRISON

When I am satisfied that this should be done, I will do so.
