HC Deb 18 February 1931 vol 248 c1248
65. Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

asked the Minister of Labour if she is aware of any industry or business in which there is at present an unsatisfied demand for labour?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of LABOUR (Mr. Lawson)

Apart from resident domestic service and certain cases where there may be a shortage of specialised work-people at the height of the season I am not aware of any general difficulty on the part of the Employment Exchanges in filling any demands notified to them.

Major NATHAN

Has the difficulty of getting machinists in the tailoring trade been brought to the attention of the Ministry of Labour?

Mr. LAWSON

I am not sure that the attention of the Ministry has been drawn to this particular matter, but I am aware that there is some difficulty in getting young girls as learners.

Mr. McSHANE

Is it not true that there is a serious shortage of labour in the ranks of Lord Beaverbrook's Crusaders?
