HC Deb 18 February 1931 vol 248 c1244
53. Mr. SMITHERS

asked the First Commissioner of Works if he will undertake that the horse in the amended model of the Haig statue shall be a replica of an English thoroughbred?

Mr. PARKINSON (Lord of the Treasury)

As the First Commissioner of Works informed the hon. Member on the 4th instant, the commission has been given to Mr. Hardiman. He cannot, therefore, give any such undertaking.

Mr. SMITHERS

Will the hon. Member convey to the First Commissioner of Works, and ask him to convey to the artist, the very strong feeling there is against this course, and, in view of the fact that it tends to bring ridicule on the memory of Lord Haig, will he convey the view in this question and other strong representations to Mr. Hardiman?

Mr. PARKINSON

I will convey the hon. Member's observations to the First Commissioner of Works.
