asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the average cost per head of clothing the personnel of the Royal Navy in 1913–14 and 1930–31, respectively?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Mr. Ammon)

The cost of the kit supplied to men dressed as seamen on first entry in 1913–14 was £7 10s., and in 1930–31 £12 8s. In addition, an allowance which was introduced in 1917 is now paid for upkeep of this uniform, the current rate being £6 10s. per annum.
