HC Deb 17 February 1931 vol 248 c1039
12. Mr. MACPHERSON

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that it is proposed to demolish the pier at Nigg, in the Cromarty Firth; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to preserve a structure which is in good condition and which is of great value to the community?

Mr. W. ADAMSON

I have no information as to any proposal to demolish the pier. I understand, however, that the pier is now used mainly in connection with the ferry to Cromarty, that the revenue is too small to meet the cost of upkeep, and that the county council are not prepared to take over the pier.

Mr. MACPHERSON

Does the right hon. Gentleman read the answers given by his colleagues? One colleague gave an answer last week. Is it in the power of a county council to take over from a private owner a pier that is of great use?
