HC Deb 16 February 1931 vol 248 cc873-4
51. Major McKENZIE WOOD

asked the Prime Minister whether, in making future recommendations for appointment as Governor, he will consider the advisability of laying down rules to guide retiring Governors with regard to their attitude to the Administrations of which they have formerly been the heads?

The PRIME MINISTER

If the hon. and gallant Member would inform me of what he has specifically in mind, I shall look into the matter.

Earl WINTERTON

Are there not very strong rules now, in this respect, with regard to Colonial Governors?

The PRIME MINISTER

There are, and that is why I would like to know, specifically, what the hon. and gallant Member has in mind.

Major WOOD

Has the right hon. Gentleman not seen the address given in Scotland by a late Governor-General?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, I have not.
