HC Deb 12 February 1931 vol 248 cc583-4
78. Major-General Sir ALFRED KNOX

asked the Minister of Health whether he has considered the scheme for the drainage of Amersham, Chalfont St. Peter, Chalfont St. Giles, Chesham Bois, Chenies, Coleshill, Great Missenden, Little Missenden, and Seer Green, an area containing a population of 60,000; whether he is aware that this scheme involves the deposition of sewage at Gerrard's Cross; and whether, in view of the effect that this project would have upon the neighbourhood, he will withhold his consent?

Mr. GREENWOOD

A public local inquiry into this scheme, which involves the provision of purification works in the parishes of Gerrard's Cross and Denham, is to be held by one of my inspectors on the 26th instant. My decision must await consideration of the inspector's report.

Sir A. KNOX

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind always that if this scheme is sanctioned it will have a disastrous effect on one of the most beautiful districts in Buckinghamshire?

Mr. GREENWOOD

That is true, but no district wants a sewerage scheme in its midst.

Sir A. KNOX

Are there not some particularly beautiful districts that ought to be protected?
