HC Deb 12 February 1931 vol 248 cc580-1
70. Sir RENNELL RODD

asked the President of the Board of Education what percentage of the schools represented on the Headmasters' Conference, generally known as public schools, have been inspected by the Board of Education and recognised as efficient; how many preparatory schools (boys, girls', and mixed), generally known as private schools, have similarly been inspected and recognised as efficient; and if he is aware that a number of others have voluntarily invited such inspection which there has not been time to give?

Sir C. TREVELYAN

Ninety per cent. of the schools represented on the Headmasters' Conference have been inspected by the Board and recognised either for purposes of grant or as efficient. The number of preparatory schools recognised by the Board as efficient is 159 boys schools, 17 girls' schools and 21 mixed schools. Eight preparatory schools which have recently applied for inspection have not yet been inspected, but will be visited shortly.
