HC Deb 12 February 1931 vol 248 c563
27. Sir COOPER RAWSON

asked the Minister of Labour what steps are taken in the Employment Exchanges to bring to the notice of those seeking work the demand for kerb dressers in different parts of the country and the high wages it is possible to earn in the industry?

Miss BONDFIELD

Particulars of vacancies for kerb dressers, including the rate of wages offered, which are notified to the Department and cannot be filled locally are brought to the notice of suitable applicants registered at other Employment Exchanges in the ordinary way.

Mr. KELLY

Can the right hon. Lady tell us what are the rates operating in this industry which are called high rates?

Sir C. RAWSON

Is the Minister aware that it represents about £4 5s. a week for boys as well as men?
