HC Deb 12 February 1931 vol 248 c592
102. Mr. WEST

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether the proposed reduction of bonus will be applied to civil servants now receiving £3 weekly or less?

Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

The recent announcement as to the assessment of bonus as from the 1st March next covers all civil servants whose remuneration is subject to variation in accordance with the cost-of-living index figure.

Mr. WEST

Does not the hon. Gentleman think that there are other classes who might well be squeezed, before we attack the poorer paid workers in the Civil Service?

Mr. MUGGERIDGE

Is the Minister of opinion that people who are paid £3 a week can afford this reduction?

Mr. SPEAKER

Matters of opinion are of no value at Question Time.
