HC Deb 04 February 1931 vol 247 c1792
9. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the discussions between His Majesty's Ambassador at Moscow and the Soviet Government with reference to the Lena Goldfields arbitral award have yet been terminated; what has been the result; has the Soviet Government yet indicated its intention to pay anything to the company under the award; and, if so, how much?

Mr. A. HENDERSON

The discussions referred to by the hon. and gallant Member are still proceeding, and I can, therefore, make no further statement at present.

Captain MACDONALD

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether there is a likelihood of agreement?

Mr. HENDERSON

As the hon. and gallant Member knows, this is a very difficult case, and I am doing my best. I have had interviews with representatives of the company, and I have instructed the Ambassador in Moscow, who is doing his level best, and there will be no delay, so far as we are concerned.
