HC Deb 10 December 1931 vol 260 cc2053-4
95. Captain HEILGERS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will take steps to limit the abnormal importa- tions of bacon in view of the fact that the imports of that commodity in 1931 are estimated to exceed those of any previous year by no less than 26 per cent.?

Sir J. GILMOUR

I can assure my hon. and gallant Friend that this aspect of the agricultural situation will be borne in mind by the Government in its consideration of a. comprehensive policy.

Captain HEILGERS

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that if we had a quota for bacon in this country we could within 21 months supply all the bacon that is needed?
